Tips for Cracking HR Interview

In any job interview HR interview is the common and last round for hiring the candidate according to the company’s requirements. HR interview is an important round to shortlist the candidate. Companies are looking to hire candidates who are good at soft skills and compatible with their organization, as much as they can do a technical job.

As a fresher, you will experience a lot of anxiety before you go to attend an interview. Preparing well for the interview is the only solution to avoid this anxiety. Here are few interview questions which you can be expected to ask during your HR interview with a way to answer them:


    The first question in the HR interview, the answer to this question sets the tone of rest of the interview. Let’s see few tips to answer this question:

    • Give a brief about your education (10th, Intermediate, Graduation) and your family and location any of your hobbies etc.

    • You can also mention your achievements if it fits the situation.

    • Keep the answer sweet and short.

    • No need to explain your strengths and weakness until the interviewer asks you.

    • This is your opportunity to make the first impression which is the best impression. So, do not let it go easily.

  • 2. What are your key strengths?

    Another common question in the HR interview, the interviewer asks this question to understand how much you know about yourself and how confident you are about your strengths.

    • Don’t get tensed to answer the question a simple answer like “I am a very positive person” is good enough.

    • Explaining your strength with an experience from the past is advisable here.

  • 4. Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
    • This question is asked to know your career aspirations, how long you will be committed to the organization, any immediate plans for you to move on etc.

    • In case you have any plans explain them with a proper reason, if you don’t have any other plans give a generic answer with some interesting activity you would like to take up.

  • 5. Why should we hire you?
    • As you are a fresher, you are not an expertise in any particular domain, so this question is asked to understand which quality of yours will be helpful most for the company.

    • Talking about the company and which quality of yours suits the organization is the key to answering this.

    • If you don’t know much about the company’s requirements- quick learning ability, flexibility, team player etc are few common qualities that will fit for any organizational needs.

  • 6. Why do you want to work for us?

    Mention some good things about the company at the same time; try to align one of your strengths with the company vision or goal or working culture.

  • 7. Do you want to ask us anything?
    • MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION!! Never ever, go for an interview without having a question handy.

    • This is your opportunity to voice any of your concern regarding the job profile, company profile, location, timing etc; if they are not discussed already.

    • If you really do not have any questions, ask some general questions like does company provide any higher education opportunity, does company encourage corporate social activities. Etc;

  • Few tips for HR interview:
    • DO NOT read out whatever you have written in the CV.

    • DO NOT tell your weakness(s) without the interviewer asking it.

    • Always Carry a small curve (smile) on your face

    • Be Honest ( Too much honesty is also dangerous, Be Smart )

    • Answer the questions clearly with confidence

    • Don’t discuss about the salary as you are a fresher.

    • Always prefer formal dressing for the interview
