Oxford dictionary defines ‘recruitment’ as the action of finding new people to join an organization. Simply, it is the process of placing the right candidate in the right position at the right time.

Each one of us has been a recruiter at some point in our lives. For instance, your mother is acting as a recruiter when she is searching for a housemaid. She first tells your neighbors and watchman about the requirement of a maid, describes the tasks to those who approach her for the job, negotiates salary with them and finally selects the one who suits the best for the job. You may have acted as a recruiter when you selected one of your juniors to a cricket or debate club of which you were a part.

IT recruiters also do something very similar. The broad steps in Recruitment are given below:

  1. Understanding the roles and responsibilities of the job mentioned the job description (JD)
  2. Sourcing the right profiles from internal employee referrals, job portals, social networking sites and through a few other means.

  1. Screening the profiles as per the job description
    1. Checking his interest levels
    2. Explaining about the job, company and career path
    3. Do basic technical screening

Talking to the candidate and

  1. Scheduling the interview
  2. Offer finalization
  3. Following up with the candidate till he joins
